SERIES TITLE: DEAR DAUGHTER, DESTINY, AND MARRIAGE: WHAT EVERY PARENT, WOMAN, AND MAN MUST UNDERSTAND BEFORE SAYING “I DO”
One of the most expensive mistakes a man can make is marrying a woman because of who he hopes she will become instead of who she is becoming.
Potential has buried many destinies.
Potential sounds exciting because it allows imagination to fill in the gaps. A man sees beauty and imagines wisdom. He sees charisma and assumes character. He sees attraction and projects compatibility. He sees chemistry and concludes destiny.
Unfortunately, marriage is not built on assumptions. Marriage is built on reality.
A woman may have potential to become nurturing, but is she nurturing now?
She may have potential to become wise, but is she pursuing wisdom now?
She may have potential to become supportive, but does she currently support the people around her?
She may have potential to become a kingdom builder, but what evidence exists today?
Many men have become victims of their own imagination. They married a future version of a woman that never existed. A man must learn to distinguish between attraction and alignment. Purpose alignment is not merely agreeing on church attendance. It is agreeing on life’s direction.
Does she understand sacrifice?
Does she value service?
Does she appreciate discipline?
Does she understand stewardship?
Does she celebrate purpose or compete with it?
Some women admire successful men but have little appreciation for the process required to build success.
Some enjoy the fruits of purpose but resent the sacrifices purpose demands.
Such women often become obstacles to the very vision that attracted them in the first place.
A wise man looks beyond appearance.
He examines patterns, observes attitudes, studies responses under pressure and watches how she treats people who cannot benefit her because marriage does not reveal character. It magnifies it.
The right woman multiplies a man’s purpose while the wrong woman consumes it.
This is why good men must stop settling, not because they are looking for perfection.
But because destiny deserves alignment.
