One of the most painful moments in life is not discovering that someone does not love you. It is discovering that the two of you may not be heading toward the same destination.

Many couples have affection, chemistry and history. What they lack is alignment.

Scripture tells us:

“Can two walk together except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3)

Agreement is deeper than enjoying the same music, food, movies, church, or social circle.

Agreement concerns direction, purpose and life’s ultimate mission.

Marriage was never intended to create purpose. Purpose existed before marriage. Adam received assignment before Eve arrived. The covenant of purpose preceded the covenant of marriage. Life and assignment came first. Marriage came afterward.

Many people reverse God’s order. They search for marriage before discovering purpose. Then they wake up years later wondering why there is constant tension.

The tension is often not caused by lack of love. It is caused by competing destinations because two people can enjoy each other and still sabotage each other’s destinies.

The first step is honesty. Not panic, accusation, blame or Honesty.

Are we truly heading in the same direction?

Because if the answer is no, the solution begins there.
