THE DAY I REALIZED THE CHURCH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CULTURE OF ITS NATION

By Apostle Gideon Oluwalana

There are moments in a person’s life when God confronts them with truths they can never unsee.

Once seen, those truths become a burden.

Once understood, they become a responsibility.

One of those moments happened to me several years ago.

As I observed the state of society, leadership, families, institutions, and even the Church itself, a troubling realization began forming in my spirit.

Many of the things we criticize in society today are not merely political failures.

They are discipleship failures.

That statement may sound uncomfortable, but it deserves serious reflection.

When corruption becomes normal, it is not merely a political problem.

When families collapse, it is not merely a family problem.

When dishonesty becomes celebrated, it is not merely a moral problem.

When violence becomes widespread, it is not merely a security problem.

At some point, these become failures of influence.

They become failures of culture.

And culture is shaped by ideas.

Ideas are shaped by teachers.

Teachers are shaped by belief systems.

Which raises an uncomfortable question.

If the Church possesses the truth that transforms humanity, why are so many societies drifting further away from God’s design?

For years I heard believers say, “The world is getting darker.”

While that may be true, I began asking a different question.

Where is the light?

Because darkness has never been an active force.

Darkness is simply the absence of light.

The problem is not that darkness exists.

The problem is that light has often withdrawn.

Many believers have unknowingly embraced a Christianity that is content with survival.

A Christianity focused primarily on escaping the world rather than transforming it.

A Christianity that celebrates separation but neglects influence.

A Christianity that gathers every week to discuss solutions but rarely enters the spaces where those solutions are needed. Yet this is not the pattern we find in Scripture.

Joseph entered government.

Daniel entered governance.

Esther entered political influence.

Nehemiah entered public administration.

David entered national leadership.

These men did not abandon God to engage society.

Neither did they abandon society to pursue God.

They understood that the God they served cared deeply about the condition of nations.

One of the greatest errors of our generation has been the assumption that social transformation belongs exclusively to politicians, activists, governments, or non-governmental organizations.

The Kingdom of God has always been society’s greatest transformational force.

Hospitals emerged because believers cared.

Schools emerged because believers taught.

Universities emerged because believers valued truth.

Human rights movements emerged because believers understood human dignity.

The abolition of slavery was championed by believers who understood that the Gospel has social implications.

The idea that faith should remain private would have sounded absurd to many of the reformers who shaped history.

Somewhere along the way, we accepted a reduced version of Christianity.

A version that focused on personal blessing while neglecting public responsibility.

A version that emphasized heaven while ignoring earth.

A version that produced church attendance without societal transformation.

The Lord is correcting that imbalance.

The next generation of believers must understand that every sphere of society belongs to God.

Not merely churches.

Not merely ministries.

Everything.

Education belongs to God.

Business belongs to God.

Media belongs to God.

Government belongs to God.

Arts belong to God.

Technology belongs to God.

Families belong to God.

Communities belong to God.

Nations belong to God.

The Church cannot claim to love people while remaining indifferent to the systems that shape their lives.

Kingdom people must become builders.

Kingdom people must become reformers.

Kingdom people must become solution providers.

The future will belong to believers who understand that revival and reformation were never meant to compete.

They were always meant to work together.

Identify one broken system around you and begin praying not only for God to change it, but for God to show you how you can become part of the solution.
