WHY PRAYING FOR GODLY LEADERS IS NOT ENOUGH

By Apostle Gideon Oluwalana

One of the greatest contradictions in modern Christianity is our approach to leadership.

We pray for righteous leaders.

We pray for honest leaders.

We pray for visionary leaders.

We pray for transformational leaders.

Then we do almost nothing to develop them.

This contradiction has cost nations dearly.

Imagine a farmer spending twelve months praying for a harvest while refusing to plant seeds.

No rational person would expect results.

Yet this is often how believers approach leadership.

We cry out to God for national transformation while neglecting the hard work of raising transformational leaders.

Leadership is not produced by prayer alone.

Leadership requires preparation.

Leadership requires mentorship.

Leadership requires training.

Leadership requires character development.

Leadership requires exposure.

Leadership requires practical experience.

Leadership requires personal responsibility.

When Joseph stood before Pharaoh, he was not merely a man who could interpret dreams.

He was a man who had developed administrative competence.

When Daniel advised kings, he was not merely a man of prayer.

He was a student of systems, governance, culture, and statecraft.

When Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem, he was not merely burdened.

He was equipped.

The tragedy is that many believers have been conditioned to think leadership is somebody else’s responsibility.

We criticize leaders more than we develop leaders.

We complain about systems more than we build systems.

We condemn corruption more than we cultivate integrity.

We demand excellence from others while neglecting excellence in ourselves.

This is not Kingdom thinking. Kingdom thinking begins with self-government. Before God entrusts a person with influence over others, He first teaches them how to govern themselves.

This is why one of the major assignments before the Church today is creating environments where believers can develop leadership capacity.

Not just church leadership.

Life leadership.

Community leadership.

Business leadership.

Educational leadership.

Political leadership.

Cultural leadership.

National leadership.

One of the reasons I am passionate about GOKMA is because I believe the future of nations will be shaped by people who understand both spiritual authority and practical competence.

The world does not merely need more passionate believers.

It needs more prepared believers.

Believers who understand how systems work.

Believers who know how to solve problems.

Believers who can build institutions.

Believers who can influence policy.

Believers who can create opportunities.

Believers who can serve communities.

Believers who can lead with wisdom.

The Church must stop producing spectators.

We must raise builders.

The Church must stop producing consumers.

We must raise contributors.

The Church must stop producing critics.

We must raise reformers.

History changes when believers stop waiting for somebody else to act and begin responding to God’s call themselves.

Identify one area of leadership you need to grow in this year and intentionally pursue training, mentorship, and development in that area.

Join the GOKMA Community and become part of a growing movement committed to raising Kingdom leaders, social reformers, entrepreneurs, educators, and nation builders. The future will belong to those who prepare for it.

# THE CHURCH WAS NEVER CALLED TO HIDE: HOW WE LOST OUR VOICE IN THE NATIONS

### By Apostle Gideon Oluwalana

**Meta Description:** Has the Church withdrawn from society while expecting society to follow Christ? Discover why believers must reclaim their responsibility in leadership, governance, community transformation, and nation building.

In September and October of 2022, the Lord took me through a season of deep reflection and paradigm adjustment. During that period, I was led to read *Church Shift* by Dr. Sunday Adelaja. It was not merely another book. It became a mirror. It challenged assumptions I had carried and exposed blind spots that many sincere believers, including ministers, often overlook.

As I read, a question kept rising in my spirit: What if the Church has become very effective at gathering people but less effective at transforming society?

That question would not leave me alone.

For many years, believers have been taught that our primary responsibility is within the four walls of the church. We have measured success by attendance, offerings, conferences, and programs. Meanwhile, the communities around us have often remained broken, leaderless, and vulnerable.

The Lord began dealing with me about practical responsibility.

Not long afterward, I was instructed to organize a prophetic prayer procession in Egbeda. We formally notified the police. We invited pastors. We walked through the community praying, declaring God’s purposes, and standing in the gap for the land.

At the time, some people considered it unnecessary.

Others thought it was unusual.

Yet shortly thereafter, during the EndSARS crisis, many police stations came under attack.

The remarkable thing was that the station we specifically covered in prayer was spared.

Others were not.

Some suffered devastating attacks.

Lives were lost.

Properties were destroyed.

Communities were traumatized.

For me, this was not merely about prayer.

It was about responsibility.

Prayer is not an escape from responsibility.

Prayer is preparation for responsibility.

One of the most damaging teachings that has quietly crept into the Church is the idea that believers should remain detached from societal issues.

Nothing could be further from Scripture.

Gideon was not detached from national problems.

Samson was not detached from national problems.

Ehud was not detached from national problems.

Joseph was not detached from national problems.

Daniel was not detached from national problems.

Nehemiah was not detached from national problems.

Esther was not detached from national problems.

These men and women of God understood something many believers have forgotten.

The Kingdom of God is not merely about getting people into heaven.

It is about bringing God’s government into human affairs.

Jesus called us the salt of the earth.

Salt does not influence food from a distance.

It must be present.

Jesus called us the light of the world.

Light does not illuminate by hiding.

It shines.

Somewhere along the line, we embraced a version of Christianity that celebrated withdrawal rather than engagement.

As a result, many of the systems shaping society today were handed over to people who do not share Kingdom values.

Then we wonder why nations struggle.

You cannot abandon leadership and expect righteousness to govern.

You cannot abandon culture and expect culture to remain godly.

You cannot abandon education and expect truth to prevail.

You cannot abandon public leadership and expect justice to flourish.

The Church was never called to hide.

The Church was called to influence.

The future belongs to believers who understand that intercession and intervention must work together.

Prayer and participation must work together.

Spirituality and responsibility must work together.

The next generation must refuse the false choice between ministry and societal impact.

The Kingdom demands both.
